Understanding Third-party Supervision

Guardian supervision refers to the oversight provided to a parent/caretaker who is need of supervision during interactions with their children for one reason or another. Third-party supervisors are child-advocates who work with families to ensure that interactions between children and their parents are safe and nurturing.

There are many reasons a family may utilize a third-party supervisor. Some families obtain a supervisor or monitor when it has been ordered by a judge, some individuals are in need of supervision while developing a relationship and/or strengthening bonds with their child(ren). In other cases, a supervisor may be requested in order to ensure the safety of children and by easing any concern a parent or caretaker may have until protective factors can be identified, assessed, and/or put into place.
